Free sewing pattern baby sleeping bag

The size of the baby sleeping bag is approximately from 6 months old until 14 months old. The length of the baby sleeping bag is 80 cm (31,5 in). Use breathable materials for the sleeping bag like cotton and wool. Use an open-ended zippers and placed it upside down, to prevent the sleeping bag to be zipped open to easily.

Materials:
* Cotton fabric - Michael Miller, Nuts for Dinner 112 cm x 100 cm - (43 inch x 40 inch) (outside)
* Cotton fabric 112 cm x 100 cm - (43 inch x 40 inch) (inside)
* Lining 120 cm x 100 cm - (50 inch x 40 inch) (lining)
* Bias tape / strip of fabric - 5 cm (2 inch) wide
* Open-ended zipper
   - 50 cm (Size 9M - 12M) - 60 cm (Size 18M - 2T) - 70 cm (Size 3T- 4Y) - 80 cm (Size 5Y - 6Y)
* Fusible interfacing
* Two Snaps

Step 1: Draw the pattern.

Cotton fabric (Inner & outer sleeping bag):
Draw a back piece and a left and a right front piece with an aqua trickmarker on the back of the cotton fabrics. The pattern is without seam allowance. Add 1 cm (5/8 inch) seam allowance. Draw the neckline, the shoulder seams and the armholes without seam allowance. Add 2 cm (1 inch) seam allowance at the side seam of the left and right front pieces.

Lining:
Draw a front piece and a back piece with an aqua trickmarker on the back of the fabric. The pattern is without seam allowance. Add 1 cm (5/8 inch) seam allowance. Draw the neckline, the shoulder seams and the armholes without seam allowance. Draw a vertical line 50 cm for Size 9M - 12M,  60 cm for size 18M - 2T, 70 cm for size 3T- 4Y and 80 cm for size 5Y - 6Y down from the neckline on your front piece.

Step 2: Cut the fabric.

Cut a front piece and  a (left an right) back piece out of the fabric. Attach interfacing to the areas where you will place the buttons later on.

Step 3: Pin left and right front pieces together.

With right sides facing pin down the left and right front pieces. Leave the top (50 cm for Size 9M - 12M,  60 cm for size 18M - 2T, 70 cm for size 3T- 4Y and 80 cm for size 5Y - 6Y) open to insert your zipper.

Step 4: Sew.

Sew and trim.

Step 5: Cut a vertical line in the front piece.

Cut a vertical line in the front piece from the neckline 40 cm (16 inch) long.

Step 6: Pin down the back and front pieces.

With right sides facing pin down the back and front pieces.

Step 7: Sew.

 Sew.

Step 8: Turn right side out.

Turn the outer sleeping bag right side out.

Step 9: Put the inner sleeping bag in the lining

Put the inner sleeping bag in the lining.

Step 10: Fold seam allowance zipper to the inside.

Fold seam allowance zipper to the inside and pin down. (Fold the seam allowance of the inner sleeping bag over the lining.)
Put the lining and inner sleeping bag in the outer sleeping bag.

Step 11: Shorten the zipper.

Trim the upper part of the zipper. (Do not cut the zipper teeth!)

Step 12: Put the zipper in position and pin down.

Put the zipper in position and pin down. Place the zipper upside down, to prevent the sleeping bag to be zipped open to easily.

Step 13: Sew the zipper in place.

Sew the zipper in place. Use a zipper foot.

Step 14: Attach bias tape.

Finish the armholes and neckline off with bias tape.

Step 15: Attach snaps.

Attach the snaps to the sleeping bag.
