Free sewing tutorial and pattern baby/toddler's-cap

Pin It

I took the previous baby/toddler's cap pattern to the next level. This pattern covers the ears even better and the close-fitting cap doesn't need ties to keep it on. Head circumference: 45 cm - 47 cm (17.7 inch - 18,5 inch).

Materials:
* Cotton fabric - 30 cm x 60 cm (12 inch x 24 inch) (outside cap)
* Fleece (30 cm x 60 cm) (12 inch x 24 inch) (lining cap)
* Strip of fabric - 3 cm x 60 cm (1,2 inch x 24 inch)

Instructions:
Download the free sewing sewing pattern here.

Draw the pattern on the back of both fabrics. Add 1 cm (5/8 inch) seam allowance. Cut the pattern twice out of the cotton fabric. Please notice that both parts should be mirrored. Pin the two cotton pieces down, right sides facing, and sew together. Sew the notches on top and on both sides closed. Repeat these steps for the lining of the cap.

(You can skip this step if you don't want to include ties.) Cut your strip of fabric in half. Fold both strips of fabric (30 cm x 3 cm (12 inch x 1,2 inch)) in half hot dog style and pin down. Sew together.

Pin the outside of the cap to the inside of the cap, right sides facing. Put the strings in place and pin down. Sew inside and outside of the cap together. Leave a 5 cm (2 inch) opening for turning right-side out. Turn right-side out. Topstitch.

With a small stitch on top of the cap, handstitch both outside and lining together.

  1. i want to thank you for your baby cap patterns that cover the ears. My granddaughter is hearing-impaired in one ear and needs this type of cap to hold in her hearing aid. You can't imagine how many patterns i have gone through to find yours. Again, thank you very much and God bless you.

  2. Cute hat, I included a link to your site on my blog, craftingmontana.com so my readers could have a pattern to use for their donation to the Florence Crittenton Home & Services in Helena, Montana. Thanks again for the great pattern.
