Download the free sewing pattern from the list below. Set your printer settings to A4 paper (landscape).

Size of the cap:
10 - 16 months. Head circumference: 45 cm - 48 cm (17.7 inch - 19 inch).
14 - 20 months. Head circumference: 47 cm - 49 cm (18.5 inch - 19.3 inch).

This cap is also available in a slim-fit version. This cap covers the ears even better and the close-fitting cap doesn't need ties to keep it on. Download the free pattern here.

This sewing pattern is also available for knits in size 2Y - 10Y. For the tutorial and pattern click here.

Draw the pattern on the back of both fabrics. Add 1 cm (5/8 inch) seam allowance. Cut the pattern twice out of the cotton fabric. Please notice that both parts should be mirrored. Pin the two cotton pieces down, right sides facing, and sew together. Sew the notches on top closed. Repeat these steps for the lining of the cap.

Cut your strip of fabric in half. Fold both strips of fabric (30 cm x 3 cm (12 inch x 1,2 inch)) in half hot dog style and pin down. Sew together.

Pin the outside of the cap to the inside of the cap, right sides facing. Put the strings in place and pin down. Sew inside and outside of the cap together. Leave a 5 cm (2 inch) opening for turning right-side out. Turn right-side out. Topstitch.

With a small stitch on top of the cap, handstitch both outside and lining together.

  2. I'm really confused of where I need to actually sew. If I'm looking at the pattern do I see the first two cotton pieces the entire way around?
